What’s in it for you?

Orrell Opticians is a long-established independent practice in Ellesmere Port, known for its high standards, personal service, and strong team culture.

We work differently from high-volume corporate practices. We focus on doing things properly — taking time with patients, paying attention to detail, and delivering a consistently high level of care.

We invest in modern equipment including OCT, Optomap and advanced dispensing technology, and we’re committed to developing our team over the long term.

You will also receive:

A supportive, team-focused working environment
Ongoing training and development
Free parking
Company pension
Staff eyewear and discounts
Access to Hakim Group benefits

About the Role

We’re looking for an Optical Assistant to join our team and play a key role in the day-to-day running of the practice.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll be involved across the full patient journey — from reception and pre-screening through to dispensing support.

You’ll be joining a supportive, close-knit team, and we’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, communicates confidently with patients, and enjoys being part of a professional

What the role involves:

Booking and managing appointments (phone and in practice)
Running a busy reception desk
Preparing patients for their eye examination and building rapport
Carrying out pre-screening tests accurately and consistently
Supporting dispensing, adjustments, and repairs
Helping the practice run smoothly day to day

What we’re looking for:

May have previous optical or retail/customer service experience — but this is not essential
Is confident speaking with patients and putting them at ease
Takes real care with detail and accuracy, particularly in pre-screening
Is organised, reliable, and happy taking responsibility
Is proactive and willing to get involved, rather than waiting to be asked
Enjoys working as part of a team and contributing positively
Wants to learn, develop, and build a long-term role

What success looks like:

Patients feel welcomed, looked after, and confident in their experience
Pre-screening is carried out accurately and consistently
The front of practice runs smoothly and efficiently
You become a reliable and trusted part of the team

Working pattern:

Full-time – 37.5 hours per week
Alternate Saturdays (9:00 – 5:30)
Participation in 1–2 late finishes per month (Thursdays)

Development & Progression:

We have a strong track record of developing our team. For the right person, there is the opportunity to:

Take on increased responsibility over time
Develop into a more senior role within the practice
Be supported towards the Dispensing Optician pathway if appropriate

What's Next?

If you’re looking to join a practice where standards, teamwork, and patient care genuinely matter, we’d love to hear from you.
